DX COR is a chemical product designed to remove mill scale completely from hot-rolled metal surfaces. It is a full alternative to abrasive metal treatment (sandblasting, shot blasting or other complex processes).

d-x COR is sold in liquid form and, in contact with the metal surface, acts as a scale solvent and remover.

When working with Corten steel, it is essential to know that all sheets up to 2 mm are cold-rolled (Corten A) and have no mill scale on the surface, while sheets from 3 mm are hot-rolled (Corten B) and carry scale that must be removed for the Corten to oxidise evenly and develop its patina (the rich orange colour).

This surface scale is a real headache for every maker of Corten products. It is bluish-black and normally no thicker than 1 mm. The scale layer forms at the mill during hot rolling and cooling of the metal; it bonds to the metal extremely firmly and protects it from corrosion for a while.

The problem when working with Corten steel is that all end users want products without this protective layer, so the steel can oxidise and develop the coveted rich orange colour — smooth, deposit-free and homogeneous.

If this hard layer is not removed, Corten steel oxidises outdoors very slowly, the patina breaks through the scale chaotically in different places, the colour stays dark and the whole piece looks dirty (many flaking scale patches remain). Full oxidation outdoors takes many months — and the piece will still not look as good as one treated correctly at the initial stage.

Today the most widespread scale removal method on the market is abrasive treatment (sandblasting, shot blasting, grinding, etc.). These solutions are expensive, the process is awkward and inefficient, and it often damages, bends or otherwise spoils the piece itself.

That is why the d-x COR scale solvent developed by LineaCor is — as many knowledgeable manufacturers will agree — a rather revolutionary novelty. It allows Corten steel to be treated and prepared for final use without heavy financial and labour costs. Naturally, the solvent can also be used by end customers who have bought a Corten product from an inexperienced maker and want it perfectly smooth and free of factory deposits.

When working with d-x COR, study the work process and safety requirements carefully and read all instructions and recommendations.
