Paupys is a quarter where the old industrial edge of the Old Town meets modern architectural motifs. It is built for a convenient, flexible way of life — socialising on balconies, terraces and courtyards — with parking and bicycle storage ensuring quick, easy connections.
The goal was to keep nature and urbanism in harmony, embrace the history of Paupys and integrate high-end modern comforts as sustainably as possible. Corten steel was chosen for the small-scale architecture precisely so it would suit the surroundings and look natural.
We manufactured and installed a wide range of Corten steel products: benches, planters, flowerbeds, level changes (edging) and stairs to the terraces.
Working from the architects' design material we prepared production drawings. As most items were large, we coordinated assembly joints, installation principles and steel thicknesses for the expected loads with the client and architect. Large semi-circular benches with planters — each 26 m long — were installed in the inner courtyard, their seating made of thermo-treated wood: a durable, sustainable, maintenance-free material with a natural look. We prepared foundations and manufactured and installed the steps from the terraces to the courtyard, formed the raised terrace edges reinforced with Corten steel walls, and separated neighbouring terraces with tall Corten steel planters.
Many contractors and construction companies worked on site simultaneously with a lot of machinery and restricted access, so our work had to be carefully coordinated to keep everything running smoothly.
